The BioInitiative Report

A Rationale for Biologically-based
Public Exposure Standards for Electromagnetic Fields (ELF and RF)
The BioInitiative Report
August 31, 2007 – Serious Public Health Concerns Raised Over Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) from Powerlines and Cell Phones. (PDF pdf) (html) An international working group of scientists, researchers and public health policy professionals (The BioInitiative Working Group) has released its report on electromagnetic fields (EMF) and health. They document serious scientific concerns about current limits regulating how much EMF is allowable from power lines, cell phones, and many other sources of EMF exposure in daily life. The report concludes the existing standards for public safety are inadequate to protect public health.

Cindy Sage, environmental consultant, talks about The BioInitiative Report: A Rationale for a Biologically-based Public Exposure Standard for Electromagnetic Fields (ELF and RF), which she edited with a team of international scientists. They document serious scientific concerns about current limits regulating how much EMF is allowable from power lines, cell phones, and many other sources of EMF exposure in daily life. The report concludes the existing standards for public safety are inadequate to protect public health.

The proposed ALARA protocol is given in video presentation of the BioInitiative Report, 'Cell Towers and Cancer' with Dr. Martin Blank presenting the theory.

07:35
Institute precautionary approaches
07:37
because we suspect that there may be a
07:40
lot of harm associated with prolonged
07:42
exposures and certainly on a personal
07:46
level prudent avoidance which means that
07:49
use landlines when you've got the option
07:51
for leaves using landlines limit your
07:54
calls and finally for the regulatory
07:57
agencies alara as low as reasonably
08:01
attainable we should aim to get our
08:05
exposures down to a reasonable minimum
08:09
and that's for people to decide we
08:12
obviously if we're dealing with the TZ
08:16
to understand in terms of automobiles
08:18
speed you know if we travel at 50 miles
08:21
an hour we'll have a certain number of
08:23
fatalities if we raise it to 60 miles an
08:26
hour will obviously have more fatalities
08:28
the question is how many fatalities is
08:31
our society willing to live with or with
08:37
EMF we know that exposure of some kind
08:41
is going to have its consequences
08:43
biologically and there'll be a segment
08:45
of the population that will succumb at
08:47
some level and what's what we have to do
08:51
is just decide as a society what is the
08:54
level at which we want to set that and
08:56
that's a political decision I think the
08:58
scientific decision is clear that the
09:01
standards have to be looked at again and
09:04
have to be reset
